Heaven on Earth
Luke 12:13-21 –
Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator? Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Then he told them a parable. There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?
And he said, this is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!” But God said to him, “You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?” Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves but are not rich in what matters to God.
Colossians 3: 1-5, 9-11 –
Brothers and Sisters: If you were raised in Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right had of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.
Heaven on Earth
Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly: Immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is idolatry. Stop lying to one another, since you have taken off the old self. Removed its practices and have put on the new self. The new self is being renewed, for knowledge, in the image of its creator. Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free. But Christ is all and in all. We all know individuals who are stockpiling possessions and wealth for themselves. Trading a smaller house, for a bigger house. Knocking down one barn, and building a larger barn to hoard a harvest. How do you feel about those individuals? And what does it bring them?
In my experience, the individuals who have an abundance of possessions are not the happiest. Often they are burdened with responsibility, clutter, and self-inflicted strife. Having busied themselves building earthly wealth.
I find the happiest people are children
and those that discover and bring joy in a childlike manner. Children are not burdened with possessions or the responsibility of ownership. They are free to live fully in the moment. My most joyous moment last week was when a four-year-old asked me to play on the playground. He pushed me on the swing, rather than the reverse. I hadn’t been on a swing in years. And the wind blowing through my hair, along with his little hands on my back, made my soul soar. I agreed to go down the swirly slide. And when I saw the look on the little boy’s face as I rounded the curve at the bottom, my heart burst with joy. The fact that my brand new white sneakers were covered in mud slid right through my mind.
The real Harvest is God’s treasure = Souls. As we set aside the things that bind us to earth (Immorality, impurity, evil desire, and greed), and encourage others to abandon theirs, we build God’s Kingdom. Once enlightened, we see the higher plane of Humanity. And it becomes easy to let go of meaningless earthly attachments. We redirect our new self towards the Spirit. Our gifts now received, and our role in God’s Kingdom exposed.
As time folds,
we are blending and baked into new birth in God’s Kingdom. Now reaching the fullness of Christ, we step out on the new plane of existence. Our view from above in the rising of Humanity as individuals move through the funnel, to the new platform.
On this new platform, you will recognize that the eternal part of you that belongs to the originator, exists still. You choose to be who you wish by gazing at your reflection. And with self-knowledge, you can attain your heart’s desire. With the enlightened perspective of the new self, it is impossible not to strive to grow the Kingdom to completion and the oneness of Humanity.
